It seems like everyone is talking about dreams.
Especially in the New Year.
Now, don’t get me wrong.
I love dreaming and we should be dreaming, but focusing solely on our dreams can be a bad thing.
What do I mean?
If we focus too much on what’s next we can miss out on what’s now.
I know people who are so obsessed with their dreams that they are oblivious to everything that’s going on around them.
Things like watching their kids grow up, noticing how beautiful their spouses are, or how blessed they are right now, in this moment.
It’s like many of us are so focused on what we have not yet obtained, that we cannot enjoy what we already have.
I’m as driven as the next person.
I have big plans.
I have big goals.
I have big dreams
And I cannot wait to see what God does in my life and the lives of those around me.
But I can’t and won’t believe that God wants us to ignore the blessings that we have for the blessings that we want.
To be honest, that just doesn’t make any sense.
It makes no sense to say, “I just can’t enjoy my kids right now because my dream is to own my own business and right now I work for someone else.”
But if we are painfully honest, we may admit that though we may not have said something like this with our words, we have with our actions.
We need to enjoy where we are.
I mean really enjoy where we are and what we have right now because one day our dream may come true.
And if it does, we don’t want to have any regrets.
We won’t want to feel like we’ve missed out on something because we were too focused on what’s next instead of what’s now.
So stop for a minute.
Examine your life.
Look at all the blessings you have.
I think you’ll be overwhelmed with how good God has been to you.
